Guptkashi Vishwanath Temple

Guptkashi gets its name from the legend that Lord Shiva hid here, in "hidden Kashi". The Vishwanath temple stands beside the Manikarnik Kund, where two streams symbolising the Ganga and Yamuna fall into the pool. Ardhnareshwar temple is close by.

How to reach

Guptkashi lies on the route between Ukhimath and Sonprayag. It is also a base for Kedarnath helicopter services.

Best time

Year round, with spring and autumn the most pleasant.

• Visit in the morning to see the prayers.
• Book helicopter tickets only through authorised channels.
