Gopinath Temple, Gopeshwar

Gopeshwar is the district headquarters of Chamoli, on the road beyond Chopta. Its Gopinath temple is an ancient Shiva shrine known for a tall iron trident standing in the courtyard. During winter the deity of Rudranath is brought down and worshipped at Gopeshwar.

How to reach

Gopeshwar lies on the Chopta to Gopeshwar road, roughly an hour or more by taxi from Chopta depending on traffic and weather.

Year round.

Tips

• Combine it with Mandal and the Anusuya Devi trail on the same road.
• Remove footwear before entering the temple and ask before photographing.
