Deoria Tal

About

Deoria Tal is a clear mountain lake surrounded by oak and rhododendron forest. On a bright morning the Chaukhamba peaks reflect on the water. The Mahabharata story of the Yaksha Prashna, where Yudhishthira answered the questions of a yaksha, is linked with this lake.

How to reach

Drive from Ukhimath to Sari village, then walk about 2.5 km on a forest path. The walk is short and suits families and first-time trekkers.

Best time

Spring and autumn offer clear skies. Early morning gives the best reflections.

Tips

• Entry, camping and overnight stay are regulated by the forest department. Check current rules before you go.
• Keep the lake plastic-free and carry your rubbish out.
• Combine with a night in Sari or Ukhimath.
