Anusuya Devi Temple

About

The Anusuya Devi temple honours Sati Anusuya, the wife of Sage Atri. It sits in oak and rhododendron forest near Mandal village on the road between Chopta and Gopeshwar. A fair is held here around Dattatreya Jayanti in the winter months.

How to reach

Drive to Mandal on the Chopta to Gopeshwar road, then walk through the forest, roughly 5 km, to the temple. The trail also leads on towards the Atri Muni ashram.

Best time

March to June and September to November. Snow can close the trail in winter.

Tips

• Wear good walking shoes and carry water.
• Start in the morning to return before dark.
• Ask locals about the trail condition before you set off.
